Why Cabarete?
Once known as a sleepy fishing village of Puerto Plata, this has grown to be a premier vacation destination. Now called the wind surfing/kite board capital of the world, it boasts year round wind conditions for these extreme sports capturing many class events like the Masters of the Ocean and the Professional Windsurfing Association World Cup. Even if not adventurous to try, just sitting back on the beautiful beaches and observing the strength and power of the surfers and water is truly amazing.

There is so much to do in the “downtown” beach area with so many great restaurants
and bars with lively night life. The selection is huge both of international food choices and or atmosphere. Lay back and sun, party at the hot spots, people watch, haggle with the non-pushy venders, bogie board, swim in the ocean, get a beach massage, meet people
from around the world, play beach volleyball, build sand castles…the options and
fun is endless.

On the street side, you will find many shops and tours. Tours include but not limited to helicopter and hang gliding rides, horseback riding, co carts or dune buggy’s, monster truck excursions, Puerto Plata tours (Brugal Rum Factory, Taino Art and Amber Museums, Fort Fillip), Ocean World and Casino, 4 wheeling, skate board park, caving at El Choco National Park…etc…

Cabarete hosts the newer Ocean Sands Casino and Disco and has many highly recommended restaurants away from the beach also. “The Pebble Beach of the Caribbean” Playa Grande Golf Course is a short 45 minutes away as is the course at Playa Dorado only 30 min. in the opposite direction towards Puerto Plata.
Gregorio Luperon International La Union Airport (code POP) is a commute of 20 minutes away from Cabarete. Many airlines fly into this airport. Flights into Santiago airport (code STI) are also an option, 1.5 hours away.

From Cabarete, everything you may want to do is within reason of price and distance. Day trips to whale watch in Samana, lunch in Cordillera Septentrional Mt. area overlooking Moca and Santiago, Unspoiled white sand beaches of Playa Ricon, scuba dive, snorkel or deep sea fish out of the gorgeous bay of Sosua, river rafting, Gri-Gri Lagoon, hiking, biking. The list goes on and on. There is so much to do and experience. A week will never be enough, guaranteed.
